Now in its 14th year, our Foundation continues to award four programs across the state with a one-year, $5,000 grant.
Navigating the health care system is intimidating for most people, but when English is your second language, it can be even more challenging and confusing. In fact, many adults who speak English as their second language may not receive the health care they need.
Fortunately, there is hope. The Florida Health Literacy Grant Initiative, funded by our Foundation and operated by the Florida Literacy Coalition (FLC), addresses this challenge. The Florida Health Literacy Grant Initiative works across the state to help break down both language and health barriers.
This initiative provides resources such as training and funding for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) literacy programs. The classes work to include health education in local curriculums so that adult ESOL learners can navigate the health care system with more confidence.
